Activity summary

This project uses administrative data from the National Health Service in the UK to analyse how variations in antibiotic prescribing behaviour are influenced by different policy interventions, such as behavioural interventions and financial incentives. We are comparing the effectiveness of these policies in reducing antibiotic prescriptions. Unnecessary antibiotic prescribing is one of the main contributors to antibiotic resistance, highlighting the importance of this research in evaluating strategies to improve antibiotic stewardship.

Our empirical framework shows how both interventions can contribute to a significant reduction in antibiotic prescribing. In addition, the granularity of our data allows us to study the heterogeneity of response according to observable physician and patient characteristics.
