Activity summary

MEEP proposes to develop an open science platform offering interactive maps of the impact of environmental policies in Europe. The project aims to fill gaps in knowledge about the environmental and socio-economic effects of policies.

Particular emphasis will be placed on health impacts, such as respiratory and cardiovascular diseases associated with air pollution. These effects will be analysed on a spatial scale to gain a better understanding of the most exposed and vulnerable populations, providing crucial information to guide public policies.

Methodologically, MEEP is based on empirical approaches to causal inference in economics, supplemented by interdisciplinary tools from meteorology and atmospheric chemistry. These approaches make it possible to model environmental impacts and their spatial distribution, in particular through the use of temperature inversions to capture exogenous shocks to pollution concentrations.
